The Running of the Wolves Demo
A downloadable game for Windows
NEW UPDATE - July 2025
Sales and downloads for the game have been stopped, and for now will be unavailable except to people who have already purchased.
Due to the new NSFW bans, it is unclear if this game will survive the purge, but I do not believe that it falls under a restricted content type despite looking like one. One of the core parts of the game is that it does include forced sex, but the context to it is important. The first thing you do in the game is register for the game event. In fact, characters explicitly signed up for the event knowing the consequences and get reminded when the player registers at the start for the gametype.
An important part of the game lore is that the competitors get into sexual situations, but they gave consent fir them by entering the game. At no point are they forced to register or take part.
However, it is unlikely that Itch will care about the distinction and the current threat is that if a game is removed then purchasers get refunded. To date that means Itch could potentially hit me with $5200 of refunds which will financially cripple me. So the only way to avoid this is to effectively stop more transactions and disconnect my payment provider just to protect myself.
This is doubly annoying as the current build of the game has major issues and we're getting close to a new release that fixes a lot of the game.
The simple fact is that if the game gets removed here, then its finished. There are no other real options for sales and distribution. This game has been developed for the last 3 or so years hoping that eventually it would reach a point where sales picked up and this would become a viable start to a small studio, but until this situation is cleared up, the only real option is to put things on hold, prepare for the worst and hope for a good outcome that allows the game to become available again.
I would apologise, but this situation is down to Itch and a complete lack of solid information other than vague new rules that just leave more questions than giving any answers.

Every year, Pineridge holds it's annual Running of the Wolves Festival. In some parts of the world, this kind of thing might be about running away from a stampede of Bulls or something. Pineridge does it very differently.
People apply in their droves to join in, though few actually make it into the competition. Some do it for the prizes. Some do it for the challenge. Most come because they want to experience being hunted down by a pack of horny wolves. In theory, the objective is to be the last remaining competitor to make it to the finish line, but every year the countryside around the town ends up littered with very sticky unconscious but extremely satisfied people.
That's assuming they don't meet any of the other creatures that live out in the wilds first.

The Running of the Wolves is a pre-game demo, so is liable to have bugs and issues still to be resolved. It has been tested, but there will be bugs that have yet to be found...

It is recommended that you use the Itch.io app to download this game, so it can update without the need for redownloading it each time.
So, now the disclaimer is out of the way...
The Running of the Wolves is planned to be a sort of singleplayer stealth/adventure hybrid with roguelike elements.
You will start from the town of Pineridge, and make your way through the surrounding countryside while battling the hunters and other competitors. It is planned to have a multi-choice map to move between procedural levels, choosing whether to take longer routes to avoid enemies or try to sneak past or strongarm your way through.
The game will feature procedurally generated persistent enemies and competitors, so the people you meet in Pineridge will be out in the fields against you until either they collapse or you do.

This game is absolutely 18+. Maybe this warning should have been before that banner, but it's not like there's an edit button or anything.
Currently, there is the first Forest World to play through. You'll be able to explore PIneridge itself, the hub of the game, register for the event and start to compete. From there you've got a worldmap where you can choose the path you take, a procedural dungeon with infinite permutations and 8 preset Forest levels with randomly generated cover, obstacles, enemies, start and end. This gives a massive amount of unique levels and should take a while to master the layouts.
There is one fully working female player character so far, with several canine types as alternatives and several enemy types: Canids, Badgers, PlantTraps and Hornlizards, as well as the Wolves themselves.
This game contains the following stuff:
- Badly animated sex
- better animated sex
- tentacles
- masturbation
- sexual takedowns
- weaponised facesitting
- big rocks
- hungry plants
To be honest, most of the content is pretty tame. As development progresses, other interesting stuff will be added, as will content settings. The game is being built with this in mind.

The plan is to try to avoid the pitfalls of many other games and avoid the project continuing for years to come. The game contains a roadmap showing the 4 planned phases of the game. These aren't 100% set though, and items in them can change around if required. For example, adding male Player Characters was a few phases on, but it's a feature that's been heavily requested, so it should be an earlier priority.
It's anticipated that the content of each phase will be flexible.
The final big thing is costs of the game. Because it's still a demo, I'm not charging for it. However, once the game is completed, I do plan on selling it. The main reason for this is that the more projects i have to do to pay the bills, the slower development on this is. I'd like it to be the priority, but unfortunately work for rent and food comes first.
The best way to help support the game is to donate something towards it. Failing that, I've got a patreon up and running for all my projects at: https://patreon.com/methodiaRascal Anything really does help.

If When you find a bug, there's a bug reporter here: https://forms.gle/XZdv1nZTt6R2Vpp78 If you don't find a bug, there's also a bit on the form for suggestions. I'm open and willing to listen.
The Running of the Wolves will update on itch.io for any major bugfixes or at the end of each phase of development, with this Demo version updating a release behind.. Any major problems will get fixed and patched as soon as possible.
If you're a Patreon member, you'll have access to intermediate game builds as well as progress updates. Plus if you go for a £15+ tier, you can have one of your characters added as a unique character in the game. Finally, once the game goes to a paid model, you'll retain access to it.
