Itch hosted update and bugfixes
Due to popular demand, the Phase 1 release of Running of the Wolves is now hosted on Itch instead of using a Drive account. No, I did not get it below 1Gb in size. The current one is 1.16Gb, which is still 340Mb smaller than the last attempt. But it turns out that if you use Butler to push files to Itch, then you have a slightly larger upload cap than doing it via the site. I did not know this, and as a result I could have got away with pushing the original Phase 1 files. I'll be removing the Drive version shortly.
My bad.
Updates
First up, I had to resolve a few bugs:
- Walls in the OpenForest were returning errors (spawning each section sets it as static, then forces it to move, which is the opposite of static)
- Extreme lag in OpenForest - Removed hundreds of thousands of foliage instances and switched them to procedural with despawn ranges
- Water was missing in the Open Forest
- Removed foliage from underwater in Open Forest
- Fixed ground textures in some areas where it was missing textures
- Fixed brief fade-out on Worldmap when leaving Start Node
- Fixed player freeze/gamebreak when captured while picking up an item or jumping
- Fixed player freeze when picking up items
- Fixed player getting stuck with IsCaptured flag, resulting in enemies ignoring you
Next, I had a look at some feedback and tweaked the max/min for how many rooms a dungeon can spawn, but to give a bit of assistance I added a Minimap. It's a first iteration and has issues. In the OpenForest, there's a significant offset between icon and enemy due to camera and icon heights. I have some ideas to fix that, but it's serviceable.
Enemy icons will only appear if you have seen the enemy, and work on the same system as the Analyse. They'll also switch off if the enemy is dead or unconscious.
Finally, I adjusted where the worldmap camera is so you can see further ahead to decide which level you want to try next.
As a note, I am still working on optimising and improving lag in the OpenForest, but it's still not great. The best fix I can suggest for now is to open the options menu and drop Foliage down a level until it's acceptable.
There should be more updates coming, but for now I'll just be dealing with bugfixes a required.
